DRAMATIC footage has emerged of armed police arresting four men in a Bradford street following a shooting.

A number of officers could be seen in the middle of Shearbridge Road at around 3pm yesterday when armed officers stopped a vehicle. This resulted in four men being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A number of police cars could also be seen blocking off traffic as the incident unfolded.

They were four of a total of six men who have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the incident which happened in Beeston at about 2pm on Saturday, October 28.

Nigel Booth, 56, owner of The Underground, Duke Street in Bradford city centre, was caught up in the traffic on Shearbridge Road, just yards from the incident.

Mr Booth said: "It was quite scary.

"It looked like a stand-off. There was a significant number of police officers waving guns around.

"There was a lot of police activity yesterday. I did not know what they were shouting. I was not far away from it.

"I went off after two or three minutes, as I was not going to put myself in danger.

"The road was completely blocked off."

Councillor Nazam Azam (Lab, City) said it was a very serious matter and he fully supported the police.

He said: “It is a very serious matter.

“The police will have assessed the situation and I support the police as they have a difficult job to do.

“This was carried out for the protection of the public. I have full confidence in the police to do that.

“It is a very tough job the police have to do. I full support them.”

In addition to the four arrests in Bradford, one man was arrested in Leeds city centre by armed officers yesterday afternoon and another man was arrested in an armed operation at an address in Whinmoor in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, had been sitting in his BMW car parked on Back Maud Avenue, at the junction with Maud Place, when a black Volkswagen Passat pulled up and a shotgun was fired at the BMW damaging the bonnet and windscreen.

The victim, who was not injured, repeatedly rammed the Passat and drove off from the scene.

The Passat was later found burnt out in Cardinal Square.

Detectives are looking into whether the incident on Saturday is linked to a shooting in Maud Avenue, Beeston, on Wednesday, October 11, in which two men received minor injuries when a shotgun was fired at the car they were in.
