A FORMER college site in the centre of Manningham has been put up for sale with a price tag of £1.5 million.

The Bolton Royd campus on Manningham Lane was, until September, used by Bradford College for adult and community learning classes.

But as part of efforts by the college to “consolidate its estate” the building has recently been vacated.

The 3.1 acre site, which includes a Grade II listed building and is just a short distance from Lister Park, has now been put on the market by the college, which says it now offers many of the courses in other local community centres and college facilities in the city centre.

In 2014 Bradford College opened its £50 million David Hockney Building, leading to many of its other smaller buildings being vacated, with some sold and others demolished.

Bolton Royd, which offered adult part time community courses, initially escaped the chop, but at the start of the academic year the college chose to close the site.

The site includes the 1,088 square metre listed building, a former villa that was recognised for being an “early example of the development of Manningham as a fashionable suburb,” a more modern building, constructed in 2003, a lodge and derelict former nursery.

A spokesman for the college said: “The decision to move out of the Bolton Royd building was based on consolidating our estate and improving the student experience.

“Our community courses are now based at our city centre campus with classes taking place in our David Hockney Building and our Yorkshire Craft Centre. By being on the main campus, students have access to better facilities including the library and Students’ Union.

“We also maintain a strong presence in the community by offering part-time courses for adults at a variety of venues at the heart of communities across the area including two centres very close to the Bolton Royd site in Carlisle Business Centre on Carlisle Road and Meridian Centre on St Paul’s Road in the BD8 district.

“Venues in the community which we deliver courses include Karmand Community Centre, Kirklands Community Centre, Kirkgate Centre in Shipley, Park Lane Centre in Little Horton and the Thornbury Centre.

“Bradford College remains totally committed to part-time community courses which allow people to study at times that fit in with their work and family commitment whether they are looking to take up a new hobby, improve their English and maths or boost their career prospects we have courses to meet their needs.”
