A Bradford pub kitchen which was gutted by a fire is set to reopen with a brand new menu.

The Crown, in Great Horton Road, suffered devastating fire damage in its kitchen on the afternoon of August 23.

The blaze spread to an upstairs room which was used for storage.

Fortunately, fire crews from Odsal, Bradford and Fairweather Green were quickly on the scene and prevented the fire spreading to the rest of the pub.

West Yorkshire Police also attended to help direct traffic around the engines at the busy junction.

Now, eight weeks later, the kitchen has been completely refitted and was ready to start serving food again this week.

Sally Gill, who has been standing in while regular landlord Andy Mathery enjoys a well-earned break, said: “The pub was unable to serve any food at all while the refitting has been going on so it has been fairly quiet in the bar.

“The regulars have been eager to see the kitchen open again and we thank them for their patience.

“The very last few bits and pieces have been going in and there is a brand new autumn menu,” she said.

She added: “Among the selection of food will be steaks, gammon, steak and ale pies, as well as lasagne, American speciality burgers, platters to share, toasties and jackets potatoes as well as special deals.”

Ms Gill said the eating area which seated around 70 people had been busy until the fire and said she hoped people would return now that everything was up and running again.

She added: “As soon as people knew we were reopening the kitchen they booked for our Christmas Day menu so that day is now booked up."

“Everyone here is just so thankful that the fire service acted so swiftly and got here so soon. Another five minutes and there could have been a lot more damage.

“We are really grateful to them for their work that day.”

On the day of the fire, crew commander Ian Turner, from Odsal, said: “It was the range extraction unit that seemed to cause the fire, and it spread from there.

“We got in and managed to get the fire out quickly, which saved the majority of the building.”
