LISTER Park was lit up by hundreds of lanterns last night as part of a “Museums at Night” event.

Cecil Green Arts, a Bradford-based group known for its large, colourful lanterns and puppets, led the twilight parade of around 350 lanterns through Lister Park.

It started from Cartwright Hall art gallery, which was taking part in the national Museums at Night event that sees museums and galleries across the country opening later and holding various evening events.

The arts group holds a parade once a year, and this year’s event was inspired by David Hockney, the Bradford-born artist who celebrated his 80th birthday this year.

In the run-up to the event the group held a number of lantern making workshops where members of the public and community groups helped paint lanterns with Hockney themed designs and colours. The evening also featured live music from Bradford Grammar School and fire jugglers.

The venue opened its new permanent David Hockney Gallery celebrating the artist earlier this year.
