A man on trial accused of multiple counts of rape claims he took part in role play and rape fantasy sex, a court heard.

The jury sitting in the case of MMA fighter and ex-teacher Brad Conway, formerly of Wibsey, Bradford, heard transcripts of police interviews with the defendant.

Conway, 36, is on trial facing nine rape charges, two charges of sexual assault, two of voyeurism and single charges of harassment to commit rape and false imprisonment.

In the interviews, which were conducted between November 2015 and June 2016, allegations from five different women were put to Conway.

His defence maintains that the women in the case all consented to sex.

Conway, now of Balmoral Place, Halifax, was quizzed by officers about the allegations against each woman. The transcript of the interviews was read out in court at Bradford Crown Court yesterday by prosecutor Nick Askins and investigating officer DC Emma Simpson.

Firstly he was accused of forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him in his car, and threatening to show people explicit photos and videos he had taken.

He denied this.

He was also asked about allegations that he locked a second woman in his home, pinned her down with a pillow over her face and raped her.

He told police that he took part in rape fantasies, denying that he had forced himself on her without her consent.

In relation to another complainant, he was asked by police about allegations he had threatened to send sexually explicit photos to people she knew if she did not take part in sex acts with him.

He responded by saying: “I’m not threatening, I’m just being nasty.”

The court also heard how he responded to accusations that he had backed a fourth woman into a corner at his home and forced her to perform oral sex.

Conway denied this, telling police: “I remember pestering her, and she pestered me.”

He added that she would “give in” anyway.

Conway is said to have strangled a fifth woman until she lost consciousness and filmed the sexual acts. She also said he sexually abused her with a vase and other items.

Conway was said to have later emailed her with some of the pictures and videos, saying: “Entertainment courtesy of us,” threatening to show them to people.

His response in interview was to suggest that he was just being nasty and did not show them around. He told police officers he had a varied sex life and enjoyed role play.

Conway’s barrister, Stephen Uttley, has previously told the jury that there is no issue with Mr Conway about sexual activity taking place with the five women - the issue is whether it was consensual or not.

The jury was earlier shown clips of sex tapes at the request of the defence.

The videos were taken from the defendant’s hard drive when he was arrested.

One of the women said she had been forced to take part in the clips against her will.

The trial continues.
