A MUCH-CHANGED Silsden bowed out of the Macron Cup first round as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Burscough.

Boss Danny Forrest chose to rest many of his all-conquering first team, who have won 12 out of 12 in Hallmark Security League Division One.

He made seven changes from the side who won 5-0 at Eccleshall but the incomers were unable to continue the momentum as Liam Diggle scored a second-half hat-trick for the visitors.

The cup tie proved a welcome distraction for the Premier Division team, who are bottom of the table having yet to pick up a win.

Sam Chapman came closest to breaking the deadlock for Silsden in the first period with a stunning half-volley which forced a superb save.

Instead Diggle put Burscough ahead a minute after the break, capitalising after a weak punch from keeper Sam Lee.

He missed two chances to add to his tally before extending the visitors’ lead after 76 minutes on the counter-attack.

Cobbydalers leading scorer Joe Gaughan had been brought on just before the goal and he came close to pulling one back.

But it was all over when Diggle clinched his hat-trick in the 90th minute.

Silsden look to bounce back at home to Carlisle City in the league on Saturday.

Silsden: Lee, Kendall, Kaine (Moses 76), Holt (Sultan 64), Chapman, Trueman, Barnes, Eastwood (Gaughan 75), McNally, Everingham, Baldwin.
