A motorcyclist has died after coming off his bike in Eccleshill late on Monday night.

The crash happened on Moorside Road just before 11.45pm.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson: "At about 11.43pm yesterday, a silver Aprilia 125cc motorcycle was travelling along Moorside Road towards Harrogate Road when it was in collision with a skip, close to the junction with Wood View Drive.

"The 27-year-old male rider received medical attention but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later."

James Wilson, 35, who lives just by the scene, said he heard a bang and a motorbike noise. He said he thought the young man had crashed into a skip.

Resident Debbie Turner, 54, said: "We heard a motorbike in the distance, coming from Fagley Road way, and then we heard it getting closer.

"All I saw when I opened the window, I just saw the bike sliding to a standstill.

"I couldn't see the driver, so I got dressed as quick as I could and came straight down.

"I rushed over to him. We tried to revive him, we were just talking to him and trying to get him to talk to us and everything.

"I phoned for the police and an ambulance. The police came first, then the ambulance and the paramedics started CPR. One of the police officers was doing it before they came."

Another resident, who asked not to be named, added: "I just heard a motorbike going down the road, then heard a sound like it was skidding, like it had lost control."

She said the skip and bike were removed early this morning.

The road was closed in both directions following the crash, though it has since reopened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicle’s movements prior to it is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101, quoting log 2441 of 16 October.
