West Riding County Amateur League Division One: Steeton Reserves 4 Unita FC 4

HUDDERSFIELD side Unita FC made their first visit to Summerhill Lane and almost went home with maximum points. Although the visitors started brightly, it was the hosts who took the lead after six minutes when centre back Alistair Morgan nodded home a Casey Douthwaite right-wing corner.

Morgan almost doubled the lead but this time his effort struck an upright. The second goal came thanks to a slide-rule pass from Ben Richardson which released Brannan Lawn, who struck a crisp effort beyond the keeper.

Steeton could have gone into the interval 4-0 up but both Richardson and Jack Richmond were unlucky to see superb efforts strike the woodwork.

After a stern on-pitch talking to at half-time, Unita started the second half in a much brighter fashion and should have reduced the arrears as early as the 47th minute when they were awarded a penalty.

However, goalkeeper Sam Moore parried the effort and pounced on the ball before onrushing opponents could take advantage of the rebound.

The visitors did pull a goal back on 50 minutes when Christian Smith smashed home a superb volley from the edge of the area but, just three minutes later, Richardson made the score 3-1.

Unita did not give up and put the hosts under severe pressure which paid off in the 65th minute when Brad Rufus forced the ball home after a melee in the Steeton goalmouth.

Sustained pressure made an equaliser look a strong possibility and it came when Morgan was unlucky in deflecting a low centre into his own net after 70 minutes.

The visitors took the lead for the first time after 77 minutes thanks to Danny Blacker. But Steeton's heads did not drop and they went all out in search of an equaliser.

Will Knight, who had earlier replaced Lawn, saw a superb glancing header spectacularly saved but the eighth goal of this entertaining encounter came two minutes from time when substitute Callum Wear (on for Aidan Smith) nodded home to make sure the points were shared.

Steeton Reserves: Moore, Alex Briggs, Sam Fox, Hudson, Morgan, Richardson, Aidan Smith (Wear), Richmond, Lawn (Knight), McGee, Douthwaite (Jeffrey).
