BRADFORD'S Alhambra has lost out in a competition to find the UK's Most Welcoming Theatre.

The Alhambra was one of 12 regional winners in the contest, having won the title for Yorkshire and the Humber last month.

The overall winner has been announced as The Mill at Sonning in Berkshire.

Adam Renton, Bradford Theatres general manager, said he was "extremely proud" that the Alhambra had been voted by the public as the region's most welcoming theatre.

More than 170 theatres competed for the UK's Most Welcoming Theatre 2017 awards were in association with Smooth Radio.

Julian Bird, chief executive of UK Theatre, said: "The response to this year's vote has been incredible, showing how valuable theatres are to communities across the UK. It takes a skilled and dedicated team to run a venue."
