THE sun shone and vintage buses were crowded to capacity as the Samuel Ledgard Society commemorated 50 years since the end of Ledgard buses and its subsequent takeover by the West Yorkshire Road Car Company.
Two days of events had been organised by the society, in Pudsey on Saturday, and in Otley on Sunday.
From stand 5 outside Otley bus station, from 10am to 4pm, free vintage bus rides departed on a regular time-table on local routes, while in the nearby North Parade car park in Cattle Market Street, there was a display of vintage buses.
“It’s been a lovely sunny day and we have been really busy. The buses have been filled constantly,” said society chairman Barry Rennison.
“It has taken many months of organising and there have been a few headaches on the way but it has been all worthwhile and a lot of people will have learned a lot of about the company.”
Samuel Ledgard's granddaughter Jenny Barron also attended.
The event concluded at the Rose and Crown pub, in Bondgate, Otley.
