A DRINK-DRIVER whose car almost hit a kerb as she passed police at Cononley was more than twice the legal limit, magistrates have heard.

Amy Nelson, 26, a dental nurse from Embsay, was driving a white Audi A1 on the A629 at about 1am on September 17 when she was seen by the on-duty police officers.

She was stopped and admitted having earlier drunk a glass of wine, the Skipton court was told today.

After failing a roadside breath test, she was taken to the police station, where she was found to have 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Nelson, who admitted drink-driving, was a woman of previous good character, who was nervous and apprehensive about appearing in court, magistrates heard.

She would not lose her job, but would struggle to get to work as she is due to move to Long Preston with her parents.

Nelson, of Beacon View, was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £276 with costs of £85 and a £30 surcharge. Her ban will be reduced by 18 weeks if she completes a drink-drivers rehabilitation course.
