A BRADFORD-born woman who went from newspaper delivery girl to boss of a multi-million pound events company says she has never forgotten her roots in the city.

Sue Gill, 46, started out delivering the Telegraph & Argus around Bolton Lane and Ashbourne when she was 12.

Now she is the managing director/chief executive of Your Event Solutions (YES), based in Hipperholme.

Her firm, which she founded in 2001, has nine offices across the world including in Dubai, France, Bulgaria, Brazil and the USA and has an £11m turnover.

YES has 40 permanent staff and a number of freelance staff and holds 900 events across the world each year and has used the Aagrah Midpoint in Thornbury as one of its venues.

Mrs Gill puts her success down to her beginnings in Bradford. She went to school in Eccleshill and then St Joseph’s College, before she left aged 16 to work at a business in Carlisle Road, Manningham, as a secretary.

Mrs Gill said: “I am a Bradford girl. My early success story totally comes from my parents and grandparents, they taught me so much – that is what I owe much of being a successful businesswoman to.

“I remember my time as a newspaper delivery girl really well. I did it for about three years and it gave me a work ethic. My dad used to take me round in the car when it rained.

“My brother has a carpet shop in Bradford and my children go to school there. Bradford is very true to me.

“I am totally focused on the company, growth currently at 40 per cent. However, it is all about the journey and not the destination. We are growing at such a pace.
