A MAN has died after being struck by a train on the main line in and out of Bradford Interchange.

Emergency services were called to the incident near the Mill Lane signal box just after 9am today, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police, who have been leading the investigation into the incident, said: "British Transport Police officers attended the line close to Bradford’s Mill Lane Junction signal box on Sunday, October 8, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“The incident was reported to police at 9.04am, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from West Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The identity and age of the man are yet to be confirmed.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police had earlier said that a body had been "very close to the train line" off Mill Lane, close to the Interchange.

There was a police presence at Bradford Interchange this morning, with Network Rail response vehicles also in attendance.

From the bridge over the line on Caledonia Street, a police car and private ambulance could be seen in a car park next to the station, accessed from Britannia Street.

Ambulance staff could be seen loading something into the back of the vehicle before leaving in convoy with police just after 11am.

Mill Lane Junction is located just outside the Interchange where the line to Leeds diverges from the line to Halifax.

Services were suspended for a short time following the incident, but trains are now running again between Bradford Interchange and New Pudsey with no disruptions.
