STARS of some of the biggest film franchises in the world will be heading to Bradford this weekend for the city’s Comic Con event.

Stars of Star Wars, Harry Potter and other blockbusters will appear at the convention, which is one of a number of events taking place around the district this weekend.

Bradford Comic Con is taking place in the JCT600 Stand at Valley Parade, home of Bradford City, from 11am to 4pm.

Alongside the guests, attractions will include Transformers stars Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, various Star Wars props, film memorabilia and competition for cosplayers.

There will also be around 50 traders selling comics, books, merchandise, collectables and more.

Admission costs £6 for adults and £4 for under 12s, with under fives going free.

Elsewhere, the National Science and Media Museum is hosting a special event from 11am to 3pm tomorrow to mark the 50th anniversary of BBC Radio 1, with a look back at how radio has changed throughout the years.

Ilkley Literature Festival also continues this weekend. Headline guests include ‘The Thick of It’ creator Armando Iannucci, pictured above , and Labour MP Rachel Reeves.

In Brighouse, the town’s arts festival opens this weekend with street theatre tomorrow.

A musical evening is also being held tomorrow, followed by a comedy night on Sunday, accompanied by music from the Idle Guitar Orchestra.

Haworth Sausage and Cider Festival is also running over the weekend at the Old School Room, with entry costing £4.
