THREE people were seriously injured in a two car crash on Thornton Road last night.

A black VW Golf and a silver Nissan Micra were involved in the crash, which took place outside the Charles Sidney car dealership at 7.45pm.

Fire crews from Bradford and Fairweather Green were called to the scene to help cut two injured people out of the Micra.

The driver of the Golf was also badly injured.

Police say the injured were all men in their 20s, and none of the injuries are life threatening. They are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

Fairweather Green crew commander Ahsan Ali said: "Paramedics wanted to get them out as soon as possible, so we took the side doors off. It took about 20 minutes. The side of the vehicle had caved in.

"Police were also at the scene, and a large presence of local youths made it made it hard for the police to do their job. Police had to move the crowds away from the scene."

It is thought the Golf had gone into the side of the Micra.

Fire crews were at the scene for around an hour and a half, and police had closed the road off until midnight while they investigated the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Three males in their twenties were taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

"Early enquiries suggest that the Golf may have been travelling in convoy with another as yet unidentified vehicle as it travelled along Thornton Road.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it is asked to contact the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101, quoting log 1753 of October 3."
