A PEACEFUL protest on investments in fossil fuels has been held at the newly opened Natwest Bank in the city's Market Street.

Bradford residents from various churches and members of the Global Justice Bradford Group met in the bank to ask them to stop investing in fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal) and put all the money saved into renewables (wind, solar, water) as part of the Christian Aid campaign to stop climate change.

The group delivered a letter to Ross McEwan, the bank's chief executive as well as one to the manager in Bradford drawing attention to the bank's need to act fast and press their customers to change their investment decisions as part of the Bank's official support for the Paris Climate Agreement.

Cathy Milford, retired Bradford minister said: "The financial case for divesting is now as clear as the moral one. We welcome Natwest Bank's present investment in renewable energy which is the only way forward if the world is to avoid climate breakdown.

"There is now an urgent need for Natwest to put its official support for the Paris Agreement into further action."

The Natwest Bank did not respond for a comment.
