SHE'S blonde, she wears pink - like, all the time - and she carries a tiny dog in her handbag. But that doesn't stop Elle Woods from making it all the way to Harvard Law School.

Fun-filled musical Legally Blonde is the next production by Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society. It started life the popular 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle, which later spawned a sequel.

The show follows West Coast sorority girl Elle Woods on her quest to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, who dumps her because she is too "blonde".

When Warner takes up a place at Harvard to study law, Elle sets out to prove she is intellectually worthy of him. Using all her resources, she follows him to Harvard and puts a plan into motion to win him back.

Along the way, Elle makes new friends, and enemies, and is always accompanied by her faithful lapdog Bruiser, played in this version by Wilma, the Chihuahua.

Elle's new pals include Paulette Bonefonte, a hairdresser who also has a dog. "King who plays Paulette’s dog, Rufus, is a huge Canary Mastiff," says Guiseley Theatre spokesman John Waite. "Both dogs are making their stage debut and in rehearsals have captivated the cast with their very different personalities. Now they look set to wow audiences too!"

Expect dramatic court room scenes, twists and turns, drama and laughter, as Elle tries to win Warner back.

GAOS have assembled one of their biggest ever casts for this show and the finishing touches are being put to the set, which involves revolving and complex fly-in sections.

Directed and choreographed by Amy Horton Atkinson, with Ian Sapiro as musical director, Legally Blonde runs at Guiseley Theatre from October 9-14 at 7.30pm with a 2.15pm matinee on the Saturday.
