YOUNGSTERS at Haworth Primary School have a new role model to look up to after receiving a visit from Britain's tallest man.

Paul Sturgess, who also holds the record for being the world's tallest basketball player, came to the school alongside his colleague Mark Waters as part of an initiative called Basketball WOW Days.

Haworth Primary head teacher Helen Thompson said: "We were delighted to welcome Paul and Mark to school.

"It started with a special assembly, with key messages about making the most of your talents, working hard and living a healthy lifestyle.

"It was the perfect way to demonstrate the importance of developing a growth mindset and understanding that hard work is rewarded with success.

"The children were absolutely hooked throughout and it was an inspirational and memorable day for the whole school community.

"Our pupils have been really motivated to try their new skills at break and lunchtimes and we look forward to seeing their talents being further developed in our new basketball club."

Mr Waters, who is a physical education teacher and a former competitive athlete, said: “Paul and myself really enjoyed our recent visit to Haworth Primary.

"We both love doing the Basketball WOW Days and seeing the excitement on children’s faces.

"The pupils and staff at Haworth Primary were all brilliant. It's great for us to be able to encourage children to discover their talents, work hard, look after their bodies and do their best in life."
