A SHIPLEY-based mental health charity has received a £90,000 funding boost.

The Cellar Trust will receive £75,000 from the Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales and £15,000 from The Big Lottery Fund over the next three years.

The charity, based in Farfield Road, helps Bradford residents recovering from mental health conditions to regain independence through education courses and vocational support.

Those courses help people develop the key skills and confidence needed to re-enter employment.

The funding will support the Trust as it continues to provide its crisis care service Haven, run alongside Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Council.

Haven, a day-time adult mental health service at the Cellar Trust charity in Shipley, is an alternative to A&E for vulnerable people in distress who are having a mental health crisis.

The grants will also allow the Trust to develop new psychological therapies.

These include group-based courses and one-to-one counselling services – increasing the provision available in the local area.

Kim Shutler-Jones, The Cellar Trust chief executive, said: “It’s fantastic, we are absolutely thrilled.

“The £90,000 is a capacity-building grant which will allow us to grow and develop. For a small charity that type of funding is essential.

“Mental ill-health is an acute issue here in Bradford. This grant will help us try and meet the increasing need for support services across the city.

“With this money we want to make sure that people get help earlier and have the best possible chance of a brighter future.”
