DOMINIC Poleon would be a big hit in Europe with his penchant for away goals.

All three of the striker's league tally for City have come on their travels – at Gillingham, Walsall and Peterborough.

With four in all so far, he will head to Northampton tomorrow confident of another one for the road.

It's a conviction shared by good pal Jake Reeves, his former Wimbledon team-mate, who said: "The good thing with Dom is that he can affect games.

"It doesn't matter how it's going or what type of football you play, he will do something to make a difference.

"He's a natural goal-scorer and he'll pop up in areas where the ball will land to him. He'll just hit one and it will go straight in, as you saw against Peterborough the other week.

"Or he can get the ball and dribble past a couple of players and affect things that way. It's fantastic for him that he has hit the ground running.

"Anyone who knows Dom, he's a very confident lad anyway and rightly so. He's backed himself to do well. But you need to be that type of character or else you won't last that long."

Poleon enjoyed a prolific first half of last season at Kingsmeadow and had rattled in a dozen goals before Christmas, before adding just one more beyond that.

Reeves said: "We had a chat about that the other day. He'd actually scored more goals at this stage last season than he has now.

"So he always starts well and with this club and the way we play, he's always going to get chances. Hopefully he can carry that on.

"You can see he's playing with a smile on his face. He's improving his all-round game as well, his passing and integrating with other players.

"Naturally he's getting more and more opportunities to score goals and he's putting them away for us at the minute."

Reeves is looking to get off the mark himself as midfield partner Romain Vincelot aims to maintain his own prolific streak of heading goals in the last three games.

Reeves managed only one last term – a very popular one in Wimbledon eyes against MK Dons – but expects the chances will come with City's fluid approach.

"Look at the last few games and I wouldn't be able to tell you how many shots we've had on goal and opportunities for different players," he said.

"It's the perfect chance for anyone in the side to chip in with a couple.

"Lawsy (Nicky Law) is naturally more attacking and ends up in quite a few positions to get into the box. Romain and I almost take it in turns, depending on how the game is ebbing and flowing.

"It's no coincidence with the way we're playing since Romain was back. He's a massive character with a lot of experience and has done a fantastic job over the years.

"Obviously the whole squad has picked up a little buzz since he came back in and you can see that with the points we've got."

Stuart McCall can see a stronger "spine" within the team now and Reeves is not surprised to see an upturn in performances as City adapt to another summer of transition.

He said: "The first couple of games were always going to be a little bitty. We'd be good here and there for 20 minutes.

"We were getting a fluidity about the way we play and I think you can see that now we're a few games in. We're starting to rock and roll."
