Yorkshire Division Four North West: Wibsey 19 Thirsk 15
UNBEATEN Wibsey overcame a self-inflicted slow start to defeat Thirsk 19-15 at Northfield Road in Yorkshire Division Four North West.
The winning points came in the 74th minute with a try by teetotaller and joint man of the match Adam Armitage, which was converted by Brad Wright, but manager Steve Brooke said: "We were very, very fortunate to win as Thirsk should have put us to bed in the second 20 minutes.
" Having said that, our defence was great during that spell."
Thirsk went 5-0 ahead in the 11th minute only for Armitage to get his first try ten minutes later, which Wright converted.
Thirsk regained the lead with a penalty but really should have taken command before the interval.
Wibsey suffered a blow when Joe Worsnop was sin-binned for retaliation three minutes after coming on as a half-time replacement, and the visitors capitalised with a converted try.
But Kyle Carter nipped through a massive gap at the back of a scrum to bring Wibsey back into contention before Armitage's late show.
Luke Helliwell was Wibsey's joint man of the match.
