A WEEK of activities is being staged to mark National Fitness Day.

Bradford Council has organised a programme of events and offers based around the initiative.

There will be demonstrations, guest-pass giveaways, taster sessions, cut-price ClubActive membership and the chance to win fitness prizes.

National Fitness Day, on Wednesday, September 27, aims to celebrate and promote physical activity.

The Council’s Sports and Leisure staff will be giving demonstrations of Clubbercise, Body Combat, Studio Cycling, Zumba and Reggaecise at The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford and the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley on Saturday, September 23, between 11am and 2pm, where they will be handing out free guest passes, encouraging people to sign up to come along to free taster sessions and offering people the opportunity to win prizes.

The free guest passes allow one-day’s access for a swim, fitness class or gym session at selected Bradford Council-run sports facilities across the district.

They can be used at Bingley, Eccleshill and Shipley Pools and Gyms, Richard Dunn Sports Centre, The Leisure Centre, Keighley and Thornton Recreation Centre on any day between September 24 and 30. Fitness classes and gym sessions must be pre-booked, please contact the centre in advance.

Free taster sessions are also being held at various venues across the district giving people the opportunity to work their abs, have a go at Pilates, Body Combat, Metafit, TRX, HIIT, Studio Cycling, Circuits and Mega Circuits as well as Zumba and Boxercise.

People will also be able to get free nutritional advice from fitness expert Faith Cavalli and try out new ICG Bikes which let people take a virtual ride on some of the great Tour de France Stage routes or tackle some of the world’s best mountain bike tracks using large screens which make you feel as if you are actually there.

Different taster session activities are available at different locations, so people are asked to contact individual centres to find out what’s on offer. Spaces at the taster sessions and for guest passes are limited so all sessions must be booked in advance with the sports centres.

Shoppers will also get the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win a whole year’s ClubActive Membership worth £300 which includes gym, swim and access to over 400 fitness classes. They will also be in with a chance of winning family swim passes and swimming lessons packages.

The Council is also offering three months ClubActive membership for just £49 instead of £75, which allows access to gyms, swimming pools and over 400 fitness classes at sports facilities across the district.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment Sport and Culture, said: “National Fitness Day is great fun and these taster sessions and offers give people the chance to try out new forms of exercise, win great prizes and get fit."
