A ROOF has collapsed in a house fire in Bradford.

The blaze broke out at 4.24am today at the semi-detached property in Holybrook Gardens, Greengates.

One person is believed to have been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but no other injuries have been reported.

A man who lives nearby said he woke to the smell of burning and blue lights flashing on his bedroom wall.

Three fire crews, paramedics and ambulance were at the scene. A Red Cross emergency support service vehicle was also called in.

An aerial appliance was used by crews from Bradford fire station to cut away at the roof remains. 

The fire is believed to have started in the attic, said a West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesman who confirmed the call had been persons reported.

Mother-of-two Halima Ahmed, 21, whose house was nextdoor said she was woken by neighbours banging on her door and shouting through her letterbox.

"They were screaming get out, get out, the house is going to blow up. i was terrified," she said.

Miss Ahmed, who has two boys aged two months and three-years-old said the man who lived in the house on fire ran upstairs to grab her baby to safety while she got her three-year-old out.

"The building people have had a look at my roof and said I can't live here. The landlord is trying to find me a hotel for now and then temporary housing until we can move back but they have said it will be a very long time."

A structural engineer from Bradford Council was requested by fire crews because the gable end of the fire-struck house was unsafe.
