A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of theft after a good samaritan's car was stolen when he had stopped to help in injured woman in the street.

Police were called to a report of a theft of a motor vehicle on Thursday, September 7, in Wilsden.

The incident occurred at around 1.15pm after an elderly woman fell while walking in Mayfield Grove.

A man in his 50s was driving his black VW Golf along the road at the time and pulled over to check if she was hurt.

While he stepped out of the car to provide assistance, a male approached the vehicle from an unknown direction, got in and drove off.

Police said a 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft and has been released pending further investigation.

They have not been able to confirm if the stolen car has been recovered.

Inquiries remain ongoing.
