NICKY Law can see a lot of Stuart McCall in Rotherham boss Paul Warne.

The City midfielder played alongside Warne during two seasons with the Millers.

So he is well placed to compare the rival bosses ahead of tomorrow's eagerly-anticipated Yorkshire derby at Valley Parade – and Law reckons they are both cut from the same cloth.

He said: "I could always see Warney as a manager because of his love for the game and his passion. He's very similar like that to our manager.

"Rotherham know what they are getting with him – 110 per cent and someone who loves the club.

"It is a very similar situation to us. They've got a man in charge who is a bit of a legend there.

"He is very enthusiastic and probably one of the best professionals I have ever worked with.

"When I first went to Rotherham, he was on trial. He'd been there before and was a bit of a club legend – although he's a big Norwich fan!

"In my time, he took us for four or five games with Andy Liddle. They were both playing but Ronnie Moore got sacked and they took over.

"Even then, the pair of them made no secret that they wanted the job. Warney dropped into the role of fitness coach for two or three years and now he's finally taken over."

Law played 101 games for Rotherham between 2009 and 2011, a period when they were housed at the dreaded Don Valley Stadium. He was also in the team the last time City beat the Millers in March 2011.

That victory was the first under Peter Jackson and came from a hotly-disputed goal by Tom Adeyemi that crashed off the bar and down on the line before being awarded.

Law laughed: "Did it go in? I'm still not sure.

"But they are always good games between the two teams. I also remember winning a couple of games with Bradford at the Don Valley and scored in one with a cross-shot.

"Rotherham are in good form like us and have picked up a little bit after the first few games.

"They probably found it difficult at first dropping down from the Championship.

"It can be a culture shock because this is a tough level. It's been the same with Blackburn. But they have settled down and the results are improving.

"They also got that monkey off their back with a first away win for ages when they beat Portsmouth. Hopefully that's a good thing for us because it takes the spotlight off a bit."

City are looking equally good after banking four points from their trips to Peterborough and Oxford. Law believes they can bring that form back to Valley Parade.

He said: "We knew we had three tough games coming up this week and it's gone well so far. You can see we're picking up after probably a slow start.

"The starting XI for the last few games have had only three new signings. That's nothing against them at all but it's obviously easier when you are playing with people you know.

"You could tell in the first few games that we had a lot of new players and it always takes time.

"Particularly with our manager setting us up differently every week. As a new player, that can take a while to get used to.

"He's big on the little things like set-pieces and throw-ins, so again you've got to take that on board.

"But hopefully as the season goes on and everyone gets more familiar, we will continue to get better."
