A GRANT to fund part of the renovation of the former Bradford Odeon has finally been released.

Bradford Live is working to turn the landmark building back into a live venue.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority last year agreed to put £325,000 towards the scheme, but would not hand over the cash until an operator was on board.

Now, following last week’s announcement that the NEC group will operate the live venue and put £2 million towards the work, the grant can go through. But many millions of pounds still need to be found before the full cost of the work is covered.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, leader of Bradford Council, said: “We are working closely with Bradford Live to secure the remaining funding needed and this grant is the first of many announcements we hope to welcome in the coming months.”
