TWO young children who died following a motorway crash have been named by police.

Two-month-old Ahmadeesaa Motara and his sister, Asmaa Motara, aged 19 months, were taken to hospital after the collision on the M62, near Eggborough, North Yorkshire, on September 3.

North Yorkshire Police said the siblings are from the West Yorkshire area, although they have yet to say where in West Yorkshire they are from.

They died the following day, despite extensive efforts to save them.

A force spokesman said their mother, who is in her 20s and was a passenger in the car, was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The children's father, also in his 20s, who is thought to have been driving the Honda Jazz, was treated for minor injuries, the spokesman said.

Police are continuing to appeal for information from other motorists, including anyone who witnessed the crash, saw the car in the moments leading up to it or has dashcam footage that may help investigations.

Anyone with information can contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 12170157953.
