Evo-Stik League Division One North: Brighouse Town 2 Droylsden 3
BRIGHOUSE Town had Ernest Boafo back on the scoresheet at home to Droylsden in Evo-Stik Division One North last night but still suffered defeat.
The Bloods had the last say in a 3-2 victory that took them to the top of the table, but they have played one game more than second-placed South Shields and third-placed Ramsbottom United.
Boafo broke the deadlock in the ninth minute as he battled for the ball in the area and, as the visitors’ defence dithered, he slotted in.
It was the striker’s first goal since his year-long injury absence.
Boafo returned to the squad earlier this month when he featured in Town’s defeat at Glossop North End, but his goal-scoring effort was a setback as he picked up a strain and had to be replaced soon after.
The Bloods were awarded a penalty midway through the first half when Liam Caddick was fouled in the area, but Town keeper Harry Stead made a superb save to deny Ciaran Kilheeney from the spot.
It only delayed the equaliser less than nine minutes before the break, however, as Caddick tucked a good finish past Stead.
Caddick then turned provider in the second half as his run and pass was converted by Dom Smith.
It was Boafo’s replacement Adam Shaw who struck Brighouse’s 63rd- minute equaliser but Kilheeney snatched the initiative back for the Bloods two minutes later.
