AN OPPORTUNIST thief has sped off in a good samaritan's car after he had stopped to help an elderly lady who had fallen.

A post on message board Wilsden Residents from another driver said he was passing the end of Mayfield Grove, in Wilsden, when he saw the lady on the ground on Thursday  afternoon.

He says he stopped to help but as he pulled up he saw a man in his late teens jump into a black Golf and drive off at high speed up the village.

The stolen car is believed to have belonged to another man who had also stopped to help the woman and had left his keys in the ignition with the hazard lights on.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed they had attended the scene at 1.25pm on Thursday to a woman who had fallen and took her to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Anyone who may have witnessed the car theft or saw it being driven through Wilsden at around that time is asked to contact police on 101 with reference number WYP 20170907-0796.
