A TEENAGER had to be taken to hospital last night after being cut out of the wreckage of a crash in Bradford.

A small Toyota car left the road at the junction of Canal Road and Hillam Road on the outskirts of the city centre at around 11pm yesterday.

The car hit a lamppost and left the round before ending up wedged between a railing and a Suzuki vehicle parked in the yard of a Suzuki dealership on the street.

The Suzuki Colin Appleyard Cars in Canal Road was formerly Bradford Motorcycles before Colin Appleyard moved from its previous base in Shipley earlier this summer.

The teenage male, who was a passenger in the car, had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters, and the driver, a woman in her 20s, managed to exit the vehicle unhurt.

The male, who had leg injuries was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by paramedics.

Fire crews from Shipley and Bradford attended the incident, and a spokesman from Shipley fire station said cutting the teenager of the car safely proved "awkward".

He said: "When we arrived on the scene we found the car wedged between the railing of the Suzuki showroom and a parked car.

"The male was trapped because of his injuries, and we worked with paramedics and police on scene to get him out.

"It was quite awkward as the rear wheels of the car were up in the air, so one of the biggest issues was the stability of the car's wheels as we freed the teenager.

"He was then transported to the LGI and police are still investigating the cause of the collision.

"The car initially hit a lamppost and then left the road, there was lots of damage to the front of the vehicle, and then it turned round and got wedged; there was quite a bit of damage.

"The driver of the car was fortunate not to be injured.

"The parked car had minimal damage to the back end of it, and the lamppost had to be disconnected due to the damage, it was bent and there were live wires on show while we were working."
