RESTAURANT staff will be taking on Yorkshire's Three Peak Challenge in aid of a four-year-old boy who has cancer.

Toby Rye has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma and his family have been told they need to raise £200,000 to allow him to continue receiving specialist trial treatment abroad.

To help towards the campaign, staff at the Wetherby Whaler restaurant in Pudsey will be climbing the county's three highest peaks on Wednesday, September 13, aiming to raise £1,000.

The five members of the team will scale Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent, climbing more than 2,100 metres in total.

Lauren Lofthouse, one of the team members taking part in the fundraising challenge, said: “My sister is currently receiving treatment for cancer on the same ward as Toby, so his story and his parents’ struggle really hit home for me.

“Cancer is an awful disease that has touched everyone in some way, but for the most part, people don’t have to worry about funding it themselves because the NHS takes care of it and they can just concentrate on getting better.

"That’s not the case for Toby and his family, who don’t know if they will secure the money they need to get him into treatment.”

Carys Schofield, restaurant manager added: “The challenge is quite daunting and I’m sure we will be absolutely exhausted from it, but it will all be worth it if we can help Toby get some of the way towards getting the treatment he needs.”
