A SECTION of Great Horton Road will be closed to traffic this evening for Eid-ul-Adha.

The closure is part of West Yorkshire Police's partnership plan to tackle issues with anti-social behaviour and the nuisance use of vehicles during the celebrations.

Traffic will be redirected along All Saints Road and Laisteridge Lane, and other roads closed to traffic include Dirkhill Road and Summerville Road, which will be closed from around 6pm.

Bradford West Neighbourhood Policing Team added: "Businesses between the All Saints Road and Laisteridge Lane junctions of Great Horton Road will also close from midnight to reduce noise problems which residents have experienced in recent years from irresponsible vehicle use and local celebrations.

"An enhanced policing operation is taking place in the area to deal with any local issues which may arise.

"The Bradford West Area Neighbourhood Team wishes everyone a happy Eid Mubarak and encourages people to stay safe with their celebrations."

Eid-ul-Adha, known as the 'sacrifice feast', is considered to be the holiest holiday in the Islamic calendar, and honours Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismaeel as an act of obedience to God.

It also marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims.

Last year, a steady stream of cars filled with revellers travelled up and down Great Horton Road from around 6pm onwards.
