Fireworks in Bradford

"Are you being disturbed by noisy fireworks at all hours? Let us know via the link below, or send your sound recordings or videos to us via our Facebook page."

We asked for your responses - this is what you sent.

From Arshad Mahmood

What is your response?Fireworks are so endemic in Bradford, council need to take serious action to curb this menace. Fireworks is not a religious requirement as part of weddings and hence should be banned. This menace should not be allowed to continue as it is making lives a misery.

What is your response? The local politicians need to wake up to this and show some leadership. I'd vote for any party if their candidate would cracking down on this. It's not just the odd explosion every once in a while. It's massive explosions right outside your house, morning, day and we'll into the night. Hard working people just wanting to come home and relax are on edge, especially if they have pets or young kids trying to sleep. What has to happen before the police actually enforce the current laws. People are going to start taking the law into their own hands soon if police don't do their jobs and it will only escalate. This is not a petty crime, it causes real distress and destroys quality of life. Makes living in Bradford a nightmare. If it carries on next year, I'm moving out of Bradford. T&A, PLEASE keep campaigning on this. Police and politicians will do nothing unless the press help shine a light on the misery caused.

From wendy Briggs

What is your response?I live in the bd9 area which is quite high up Can hear everything not just fireworks cars racing at all hours fireworks at all hours Do these people work,I ring the 101 number at twelve midnight to be told ,oh yes there are celebrating Pakistan independent day Will it's independent day everyday in Bradford

From Community contributor

What is your response?Youths, continue to congregate outside York House in BD10 area, letting off loud rockets from early afternoon until the early hours. Where are the parents of these idiots? Where are Bradford Council? And why are neither the Council or Incommunities doing anything to help the residents of York House and surrounding areas? Its beginning to feel like a very old joke.

From T Judson

What is your response? There are Fireworks going off throughout the day in Clayton Heights My dog bolted in fear last week whilst i was playing on the field with her straight into Highgate Road luckily it was not too busy at the yime another 30 minutes wpuld have been a different story!! At night we can hear fireworks going off most night up 3-4am which when your working the next day is not good!! My partner gets up at 5.15am to go to work he's exhausted by the time he gets home from work. The people doing this are obviously not at work the following day. I don't have a problem with fireworks if there not the display ones been used domestically!! Is this really allowed I wonder..why can't we have silent fireworks best of both you still get your pretty colours but no noise everyone's happy!! I noticed firework shops have opened 15th Oct He'll for the animals and wildlife once again!! We have to give our diazepam from the vets she's so terrified. It time laws were brought up to date and changed. 2 years ago in Leeds a disused warehouse was raided and the men in there were using fireworks to make bombs so there's another thought for only organised events. Too much hassle in our world be wise be safe !!!

From Community contributor

What is your response?I live close yo toller lane rounabout and particular over weekends people let of alot of fireworks!!. Sometimes they let them off at 10-30pm to 11pm at night.

From Community contributor

What is your response?Bd3/bd2 area day in and out lads (..with no lives or prospects) are driving up and down throwing fireworks out of their cars at people, houses and other cars. Absolutely disgusting, utter WASTEMEN. At nights they have NO regards to other people, scaring children, pets and those with disabilities, by letting off fireworks late at night. It's gotten worse every year. And the police? The exact words of a policeman are it's too much paperwork to stop these peasants. DISGRACEFUL. Even if they were to seriously injure people they don't care nor does the police. May they be cursed.

From Community contributor

What is your response? It's time the police and council got to grip with this problem. Why should people have them for weddings Time to stop selling them till 2 days before bonfire night .And we all know drug dealers use them find them Police don't bother because they don't want to upset certain community's.

From Community contributor

What is your response?I live at the bottom end of Manchester Rd & hear the fireworks from West Bowling & Little Horton.I don't sleep much as it is plus I'm disabled & then end up having to listen to them going off sometimes till turned 1am.

From Community contributor

What is your response?White Hart, eccleshill, did same on Saturday night, they were that loud they shook our ornaments off of shelf, scared my dog senseless, etc stupidity no warning, think they should ban them

From Susan Dwyer

What is your response?Sick to death of the moronic setting off of fireworks in the middle of the day - don't these idiots realise they can be heard miles away? My dogs sit trembling with fear, day after day. If the rules don't apply to you though, why would you care?

From Reb Sal

What is your response? It's an almost daily occurrence here in bd2/3 postcode area and it's well into the early hours mostly over weekends .I live in a residential street off killinghall road and last week I was unable to get down my own street due to such an event . Some people have a total disregard for health and safety and are ignorant and downright menacing in how they go about carrying out these cultural spectacles . The law needs to change and restrictions set. To my knowledge there are absolutely no religious requirements to carry out such practices by any community. The same people just leave the remnants of these unsocial events on the streets too.

From Tracy Smith

What is your response?Fireworks are being set off at all hours of the day, I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and they are all petrified of fireworks, kids are in the street throwing fireworks intent on creating destruction they are even throwing them into weelie bins hoping to start a fire

From Community contributor

What is your response? It seems that fireworks are being used all year round regardless of the supposed restrictions on their sale and are very often after 11pm, which is also against the law. Fireworks can be terrifying for people and animals alike. Our dog paces around the house panting and trying to hide and it is difficult to get her to go outside (that creates further complications) and she is a mature ex racing greyhound. As a child I enjoyed colourful firework displays but today it's more like being in a war zone. Is it not time to ban the sale of fireworks to the public.

From Emma Broadhead

What is your response?I live in West Bowling the fireworks have been getting worse over the last couple of weeks, we have groups of young mails throwing bangers at each other. Where we live its all terraced houses and the sound is deafening. its only a matter of time until someone gets seriously injured. I have two rescue dogs both of which are terrified, one is living down the side of the settee and I am struggling to get them both to go out. I cannot drug them 24/7. I have had very little sleep for the last two nights and therefore I am struggling to work. My husband has tried to talk to the youths and explain the situation but this has made matters worse and so now the fireworks are been let off directly outside our house. He has also contacted the police but he has had no response. Considering the lads look under 16 and that fireworks are not supposed to be on general sale yet im confused as to how they are purchasing them.

From patricia Greenwood

What is your response?I was driving along Gain lane towards thornbury last thursday with my grandaughter in the car at about 5.15, she is 3 years old, when I heard a very loud bang, I nearly crashed my car and my grandaughter started to cry in her car seat. This is not good enough. I live near Moorside road and hear fireworks going off at all hours of the day/night. They should be banned except on Bonfire night and New years eve which is acceptable. I dont have to get up for work but feel really sorry for those that do.

From Community contributor

What is your response? It's annoying in the west bowling area.. is there any need to set off fireworks so late at night?!.. people have work. I wouldn't be bothered if it was on a weekend that's understandable but through the week no thanks.

From Rachael Wood

What is your response?Fireworks in BD2 going off at least 3-4 nights every single week. It's got to the point where we are like 'oh, there's another lot'. The bad thing is fireworks are often let off as a sign that the dealer's drugs have arrived - this is common knowledge not hearsay - and with the shootings, car chases and arrests constantly around the area at the minute it's hard not to feel these events are somehow linked. Fortunately my cats are not phased by fireworks, however my dog used to be so scared we would have to sedate him to stop him physically being sick through fear. Something needs to be done as the general crime rate in the area is increasing all round, but with cut backs to policing and local governments by our wonderful government leaders im unsure how this is going to be addressed :-(

From Lynne MESTON

What is your response?I live in pudsey and we can hear fire works on a regular basis. The other week it seemed to be overnight between midnight and sometimes started later. Where I live there are horses and you can hear the horses whinnying for ages after. My pets are terrified and I get really annoyed that it's on work/school nights. No respect for others at all. I was told it was weddings at a restaurant near Thornburg roundabout. Also old people living alone must be terrified.

From Community contributor

What is your response?I live in heaton BD9 and last few weeks my one year has woken up crying at 1am due to some selfish people setting off firecrackers and fireworks off. It goes on for over 20 minutes. I had good mind to ring police straight away if I didnt have to settle my little one again. Can something be done asap please!

From Community contributor

What is your response?Bradford 6 Wibsey area. Fireworks 🎆 all the time. Anytime from 11pm till early hours. It's time BFD council did something about it.

From Community contributor

What is your response? This has been on going for the past month and a half not only setting them off a stupid o clock they are blocking roads off and lighting them in the middle of the road disregard to other people cars or houses, and not even cleaning the mess after, ive contacted the police and council but nothing has been done i have young children who get frightened by the loud bangs. Bd5 area

From Community contributor

What is your response? It's getting ridiculous. Every single night now in Wrose they start about 11 and go on sometimes until 1. When they go in so long why can't the police react and deal with it

From Community contributor

What is your response? The fireworks are a nuisance. Not really interested in why they are being set off as it does not make it any better. Fireworks are a new addition to celebrations and not an historical tradition. Its time the police got involved. Late night licenses for drinking establishments have to be granted and can be taken away if neighbours complain about late night disturbances. If I can hear them at the other side of Bradford, it is a disturbance and a ban should be put in place.

From Community contributor

What is your response?I say Ban All FireWorks........

From Jabz Akhtar

What is your response?Live in the BD8 area and in the last few weeks this has been an ongoing problem due to the number of weddings in the local area. Additionally Lala's wedding Hall is nearby therefore there are more fireworks then in an any other area. Extremely disturbing for someone who has to be up at 4:30am every morning for work.

From Dan Grimshaw

What is your response?Having moved to bradford from Leeds recently I have noticed that fireworks are a regular issue late at night, I have had to get up and close windows during the night because of this. Hopefully now its made the news something may be done about it.

From Community contributor

What is your response?Total disregard for the law and neighbours.. That's what this boils down too. I'm all for people enjoying themselves however there comes a time when the total lack of respect for others has to stop. It's like a war zone, my pets are terrified, I'm a wreck my nerves shot and basically something has to happen, before the fireworks are not the only thing to explode.

From Helena Fruin

What is your response?I have two rescue huskies and one is so scared by the fireworks he has to have medication its so unfair he is terrified

From Community contributor

What is your response?I am very annoyed about fireworks at anytime, to be quite honest. My pet dog suffers so badly with anxiety after the first rumble of fireworks . We have to sit with her to calm her down and often have to medicate her. When they go off after 11pm, we are in bed and have to get up to see to her. We have already been woken by the fireworks, too. What must it be like if you live right next door to them, I can't imagine. What's the the attraction of them? What do they add to an event? Why have ones that bang so loudly? We need to think also about the environment where wild animals must be fightened almost to death, by them.

From Michael Coulter

What is your response?Fireworks going off at night time Bolton road idle idle road, Bolton junction, plus cars road racing. Hanging about Kent's gym building expensive cars most nights.

From Linda Parker

What is your response? It is not as bad in my area of Bradford as it used to be, however it is a nuisance and it upsets domestic pets and the otter widlife we have left. People are totally inconsiderate, I don't know how they can afford them anyway. They are a total waste of money and Ithink it is time they were banned altogether and only displays allowed.

From lindsey hodges

What is your response? These fireworks have been a problem for a long time now with family and friends as far as wyke being woken by them. The nextdoor app has numerous people complaining most of whom have contacted council or police but yet nothing has been done. Glad to see that the T & A is now helping push for action.

From Jo Priest

What is your response? We hear the fireworks at least once a week ,late at night. It does sound like a war zone. It's always when we have gone to bed. And is just as often in the week,as at weekends.we live in Eccleshill.

From Community contributor

What is your response?3 weeks of continuous fireworks across BD4 now and further afield when I see others have heard the same across different postcodes at the same time! It's got out of hand!

From Community contributor

What is your response?Must have gone on intermittently from around 23:00 until 01:30 worse for that as the loud bangs continued for some time. Not good for a Sunday night with work to follow next day!

From Community contributor

What is your response?I visited my overnight once, and they woke me and my five year old sister in the middle of the night it's a nuisance, my sister text me from upstairs asking if I was awaken to I inform me it wasn't every night! It's a Joke when my mum and her colleagues are up a time 4am for work! Complete disregard to others, I respect Asian weddings and other celebrations but not the fact ive been woken at 1am! And I don't believe it's just for celebration the fireworks are being used aswell.

From Community contributor

What is your response?Fireworks let off almost every night after 11pm west bowling area

From Community contributor

What is your response?I complained to the police about fireworks years ago and was told they would investigate if I could tell them the vicinity of the noise! Every night of the week we hear noisy fireworks which can go on as long as half an hour and are usually activated around midnight. However last week we were entertained at 2.30 am for a whole twenty minutes! I,m not interested in who is responsible for these fireworks, but very interested to know why they are being allowed to get away with it and how they are obtaining fireworks that (I believe) are only allowed on sale particular times of year. It,s quite disgraceful how long this has been going on! I live in the Bradford 2 area.

From Carol Young

What is your response?I too along with my nieghbours are being constantly woken up & frightened by the continuing noisy fireworks late at night.....Surely the police can also hear the noise when they are out at night and are able to find the culprits.....We live in baildon but it can be heard for miles...It is totally unexceptable and very disturbing especially to the elderly, people who have to get up early for work & all animals which unlike bonfire night we are unable to prepare for....Its about time the police warned they people with fines and prosecution....Who else can we depend on to keep the piece....Well done t&a for bringing attention to this ongoing stressfull situation which everyone I know is complaining about...Come on pc's help us out...

From Ann Offord

What is your response?I live near Baildon Bridge and woken up twice last night, first around midnight then about 1am. It's a regular thing many times a week. It should be banned, apart from new year and bonfire night.

From Shazia Sheikh

What is your response?I don't live in Bradford anymore but when i visit my parents every weekend no matter what time of the year it is there is always idiots setting off fire works in the night. Wedding venue should ban the fireworks if it is after 11pm! Most of the time i hear it coming from lala's banqueting which is duckworth lane...we can hear and see the fireworks. This isn't india or pakistan people should have some respect for others.

From Community contributor

What is your response?Multi Shot Fireworks set off the last 3 mornings ( between midnight and 1.30 a.m) going on for a good 15 minutes in the Scotchman Road/Heaton Road area of BD9. Hard to believe police cannot hear and see these fireworks going off. Guess they choose to ignore them as someone in a patrol car should be able to drive to the source simply by using their eyes and ears.

From Community contributor

What is your response?People setting fireworks off after midnight is becoming a nightmare. This goes on for at least 20 minutes and is not fair to residents who have interrupted sleep every night when they have to get up early in the morning to go to work.

From Community contributor

What is your response?I have to agree with the other people on the T&A website regarding late night and nightly fireworks. My wife has to get up at 4:30am and she's getting fed up of being woke up in the middle of the night. I live in East Bowling and although the majority of the fireworks are over in Great Horton, they are still loud all the way over here. This has been almost nightly now for that last few weeks and it's getting annoying. I vote to ban fireworks to anyone without a licence.

From Kyle Dooley

What is your response? In bd8 its bad for fireworks going off at all times at night something needs to be done

From Joanne Calvert-Hall

What is your response?Saturday evening the loudest bang I have ever heard way beyond any firework noise I have heard before I seriously thought something had blown up, then past 11pm last night went on for an age! Fireworks have been going off for weeks now but particularly bad over the weekend. SORT IT OUT BRADFORD COUNCIL!

From Community contributor

What is your response?I live in the city centre of Bradford. No exaggeration, fireworks go off every day & night. Some days are worse than others. The worst ones are late at night, around 12am. The fireworks go on for 20 minutes or longer at times during the night, constantly waking me,my partner & most importantly my one year old son up. The people doing this have no respect whatsoever for other people in their community.

From Leslie Megson

What is your response? My dog is terrified and made a quivering wreck almost every night so even long after the fireworks have finished it is difficult for the household to settle down again. Fireworks used to delight me as a child with their colourful display but now it really is just about how loud they can be and the words 'like a war zone' are the only way to describe it. With the current crime and terror situation already making people nervous should we not consider a total ban.

From Jane Cowlishaw

What is your response? It is so annoying night after night. People have to go to work and having sleep disturbed. My poor dogs are constantly in fear. It's just inconsiderate and should be banned now save for organised events.
