A CITY centre market dedicated to selling locally produced goods will be moving locations to make the most of the the city’s burgeoning “top of town.”

Made Bradford was first set up in March as a way of highlighting the work being done by local independent traders, as well as attracting people further into the city centre, rather than just remaining in and around The Broadway.

Since then it has held a number of popular city centre market days.

In recent months the Made Bradford has coincided with events including the Tour De Yorkshire, the North Parade Street Festival and the Bradford Classic.

Although the markets have been held in different locations for these different events, the regular spot for the stalls has been on Darley Street.

But these regular markets will now be running from a different location - Oastler Square between North Parade and the Oastler Centre.

The market, supported by Bradford Council, is for traders from the district and Yorkshire, features stalls for original artists, crafters, designers and creative food producers and for anyone looking to buy something original in Bradford city centre.

Made Bradford was set up by Jonathan Smith, Shy Burhan and Matt Lamont, to tempt shoppers who usually go to the Broadway into other parts of the city centre.

The group said the change in location will be beneficial to traders, and help provide a boost to both the indoor market and the bars of North Parade.

Miss Burhan said the Darley Street location had worked well “to a point” but it was decided the market would better thrive in a different area of the city.

She said: “When we had the market there for the North Parade Festival it went really well. Because of that the council said they wanted to give us a new location to try, so we’ll be there for our next few markets.

“We’ll be up in Oastler Square for the September and October markets. It is a good location because we are closer to the traders at Oastler Market and to the businesses on North Parade as well.

“We had great trade when we were there last, as Bradford City were playing that day so plenty of supporters came to the market. They’re also playing the day of the next market on September 2.

“It helped being able to work with all the businesses on North Parade, and that cross promotion will really help both sides.

“Next year we’re looking to expand even further.”

The next market will be held on September 2 from 10AM to 5:30 PM.
