A BRADFORD man has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of three terrorism offences.

Sagheer Hussain, 39, of Bishop Street, Manningham, was found guilty of uploading videos that were supportive of ISIS on his Google+ account.

Hussain was arrested by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit in January 2016 after an intelligence led investigation. He was charged in August 2016 with three offences contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 (dissemination of terrorist publications).

He was sentenced in Leeds Crown Court today.

The court had heard how Hussain had uploaded three videos to his Google+ account via his YouTube account which were supportive of ISIS/Daesh.

He had also added comments to the videos, again in support of the terrorist group.

Although his Google+ account only had two followers, because it was uploaded to a public account, over 25,000 views had been recorded before they were removed from the internet.

Detective Chief Superintendent Clive Wain, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said “Sagheer Hussain openly shared videos from a terrorist group over the internet.

“Terrorist groups such as Daesh rely heavily on their propaganda being shared online where it is used to radicalise, encourage support and provoke individuals to carry out attacks abroad and in the UK.

“Tackling extremist material is an essential part of protecting the public and preventing offences that incite or encourage acts of terrorism.

“We urge anyone who sees extremist content online to report their concerns anonymously to specialist officers via www.gov.uk/report-terrorism or by contacting the police in confidence on 0800 789321.”
