BRADFORD Civic Society has welcomed a new Membership Secretary as it continues to push to attract members from more diverse backgrounds.

Just a few months after 30-year-old Si Cunningham became chairman of the society, and youngest Civic Society chairman in the UK, Ruth Frost, 28, has been appointed to a role on the society executive.

The Baildon resident has experience in the charity sector, and works for a national not-for-profit organisation to increase the participation of women in Science Technology Engineering and Maths. She is also an NCTJ-trained journalist.

She said: “I want to support and champion Bradford Civic Society, increasing and diversifying its membership because I am passionate about how much wonderful architecture we have to protect and enjoy, as well as how much potential for great new design and development we have! I feel Bradford is at a turning point and I want to be a positive part of that change.”

Si Cunningham, Chairman of Bradford Civic Society, says: “I’m thrilled that Ruth’s taken on this important role. Ruth is an incredibly passionate Bradfordian with a lot of ambition for the city, so she’ll make a great addition to the Civic Society. With things like our current campaign to secure more funding for the Odeon, we’re starting to properly bang the drum for Bradford.”

The appointment coincides with the introduction of Bradford Civic Society’s new brand identity and relaunch of its website. New members can now join for just £5 for the year, and benefits include 10 per cent off at Sunbridge Wells as well as access to more events. Visit bradfordcivicsociety.co.uk for more information.
