A SHOOTING at a Bradford pub when armed men stormed in and discharged a gun has been described as “distressing and destabilising” for the area.

As reported yesterday, police were called to The Sycamores pub, in Norman Lane, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Witnesses reported a group of men had entered the pub and one had fired a weapon into the ceiling before the suspects left the scene.

Officers attended and cleared the pub and confirmed damage consistent with a shotgun being fired.

Four arrests have since taken place. Two of the arrested men remained in custody last night and the other two have been released pending further inquiries.

Eccleshill councillor and former Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Geoff Reid said: “Shootings in any local community whether there are injuries or not are bad for an area. It is distressing and destabilising.

“I am sure it is distressing too for the people at the pub who are trying to make a go of it. They could do without it, I am sure.

“As ever, much of the solution to stopping this sort of crime lies within the local community.

“There are people who know who is doing it and why they are doing it.

“It is very sad and not good for any community to have fire arms being used.”

Carlton Young, duty inspector for West Yorkshire Police said a car had made off from the scene which was stopped by officers.

The Telegraph & Argus was unable to contact the pub for a comment.

  •  Meanwhile, a man was arrested on Sunday morning in relation to shootings in Heaton Road, Manningham, last Tuesday, which resulted in two men being injured and requiring hospital treatment.

The arrest followed overnight activity on Saturday when armed police made a number of searches in the BD2, BD9 areas of Bradford, as well as an area of Keighley.

Helicopters circled various parts of the district and police dogs were deployed to a number of locations. Officers also chased a suspect in BD2 on foot.

A spokesman said one man was arrested at 7.20am on Sunday in relation to the Heaton Road shootings but added that it was not believed the two incidents were linked.

Detectives say they are continuing their investigations into both shooting incidents and ask for anyone with information to ring 101
