LIVE music, a classic car show and two charity rugby events are among a host of entertainment taking place across the district this weekend.

One of the biggest events of the summer in Ilkley draws to a close this weekend, with the final two days of Ilkley Jazz Festival.

Concerts will be held at various venues around the town, bringing some of the best jazz music around.

King’s Hall in Station Road will host a number of concerts, kicking off at 1pm on Saturday with Jamil Sherriff’s Piano Trio.

Following that will be Jamie Brownfield Quartet at 2.30pm, who will be playing a range of styles including New Orleans street beat, swing and reggae.

At 4pm, award-winning composer and Mercury Prize nominated saxophonist James Mainwarring will bring his trio to the concert hall, followed at 6.30pm by Beverley, performing a selection of Hoagy Carmichael songs from the golden age of jazz.

Closing the show at 8pm will be pianist and composer John Crawford, whose set will be heavily influenced by Latin American and flamenco sounds. Tickets for each show are available from the box office.

The Black Hat in Church Street will hold a jazz jam at 11pm on Saturday, followed by a Latin workshop at 10am on Sunday and Hot Club du Nord at 12.30pm. All are free entry.

Meanwhile, in Haworth, a teddy bear’s picnic is set to take place on Saturday from 12pm in Central Park, with children invited to bring their favourite teddies down along with some food.

In Apperley Bridge on Sunday, there will be an open day held by the Canal & River Trust.

Visitors will be able to see behind the scenes at the historic site at Dobson Lock on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, comprising of a smithy and workshops from 10am to 4pm.

Tony Entwistle, from the Trust, said: “This open day is a great opportunity to come along to see skilled blacksmiths work the forge and watch modern tradesmen using traditional skills to make items that the canal still needs today.”

Two charity rugby events will take place, the first at Silsden RLFC on Saturday where a charity match is being held from 10am, raising money to help people with motor neurone disease. There will be children’s activities and stalls alongside the game.

On Sunday, there is a charity rugby sevens tournament in Wyke Park from midday. There will also be stalls, a bouncy castle, fire engine, stalls and a beer tent, all in aid of Overgate Hospice.

On Sunday, in Burley-in-Wharfedale, there will be a food market at the Red Lion pub as part of Burley Summer Festival, including Caribbean food and locally produced foods, starting at 10am. At 11am, Burley Classic will open at the cricket club in Grange Road, with a large selection of vintage classic cars on show.
