GUISELEY will be hoping to register their first National League win of the season against managerless Torquay at Nethermoor.

The Devon club parted company with Kevin Nicholson on Thursday after taking just one point from their first four games and slumping to the bottom of the table.

Guiseley, who have drawn both their home games to date, will be hoping to extend their good record against The Gulls.

The Lions did the double over their opponents last season while in 2015-16 they drew 1-1 at Plainmoor before winning the final game of the season 4-3 to stay up.

Manager Adam Lockwood will be looking for more of the spirit that helped them to hold Tranmere to a goalless draw on Tuesday, just three days after losing 6-0 at Aldershot.

The manager made five changes for the Tranmere game and admitted that he was confronted with some tough decisions.

Lockwood said: “There were members of the squad who were in my starting line-up one minute and not in the match-day squad the next. People have knocks and we have different permutations where we can move people. It is hard to put that across to people, but I see us as a group rather than just a team.

“I want tough decision on who I bring into the squad and who I pick. That might change week on week depending on who I feel will hurt the opposition.

“Hopefully I get it right more than I get it wrong. I will get things wrong but I will also get things right. It is great the lads are buying into that.”

One player who has done his chances of facing Torquay a world of good is 21-year-old goalkeeper Joe Green. He made his debut in place of Jonny Maxted against Tranmere and delighted his boss.

“He is a young lad with a great future ahead of him. That is what I want, people pushing people to improve standards and improve performances. For a young lad to come in for a game against one of the favourites to win the league, I thought he was outstanding.”
