A BOSS at a cab firm has issued a new appeal over an horrifying attack which left one of his employees with a cracked skull.

Switchboard operator Abbas Yasin, 25, suffered a cracked skull and potential brain injuries when he was attacked by a suspect who carried a metal bar, as he worked in Ace Budget Cars in Thornton Road, Fairweather Green.

Mr Yasin, a father-of-two, underwent an eight-hour operation to remove fragments of bone from his brain and is conscious.

Driver, Waqaas Mohammad, 30, who was the only other staff member at the site at the time of the attack, was treated in hospital for injuries to his arms, leg and back but was later discharged.

Police are still hunting the masked attacker, who was armed with a metal bar and believed to have left the scene in a car.

Munir Hussain, business owner, previously told the Telegraph & Argus his son-in-law, Mr Yasin, went to defend Mr Mohammad and the attacker hit him on the head with a metal bar.

The attack took place at just before midnight on Sunday, August 6.

Amir Hussain, Ace Budget Cars manager, said Mr Yasin was more cheerful as he recovered at Leeds General Infirmary and would have further tests to see if he could be discharged yesterday.

He said: “He is more like himself and more cheerful now and happier than he was.

“It has been nine days now. We just want answers. He could be brain damaged by this.

“It will be a long process for him to recover. Fingers crossed he will be fine. The fact that he is young will make it easier for him to recover.

“We are all still in shock. It makes no sense. I have continually replayed the attack in my mind.

“We just want justice. Why would anybody do it?

“Abbas is lucky he wasn’t killed. He is such a nice lad, we don’t know why anybody would harm him.

“Anybody who has any information, no matter how small, can they please get in touch with the police.

“I have hardly slept since it happened.

“There has been no more police presence around here since the attack.

“We were shocked and disgusted by what happened.”

Mr Hussain added the office has received messages of support and flowers from residents and other minicab firms after hearing about the attack on the two men.

CCTV footage of the attack, which the firm has handed over to police, is believed to show a white man arriving in an Audi TT and the way he had hidden the metal bar in his sleeve before flicking it down into his hand had been “like something out of a movie”.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman yesterday said its inquiries are continuing.
