DIFFERENT communities and nationalities united in Bradford for an event to celebrate the city.

Hope Not Hate saw 40 stalls take over Centenary Square and City Park for an afternoon of free food from around the world and live music.

The event, which took place today, was billed as a free afternoon of ‘celebration, togetherness and Bradfordness’ to mark the city’s diversity.

Groups including the Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank, the Hindu Cultural Society of Bradford and social housing group Incommunities handed out free food and advice to visitors.

Paul Meszaros, event organiser, said: “This event is about bringing all bits of Bradford together.

“We think Bradford is a resilient place and really good and this shows it.”

Ash Sharma, of the Hindu Cultural Society of Bradford, who gave out free chickpea curry and samosas to visitors, said: "This year''s event is to celebrate Bradfordness really.

"It is good that we have that Bradford cultural identity."
