PLANS for the former Fields printers and packaging site in Lidget Green are tipped to get approval from planners this week.

The proposals would see the land, at Scott Works, Hollingwood Lane, feature Aldi and Home Bargains stores, as well as a Marston’s family pub.

The scheme forms part of a wider development which will provide a “comprehensive” retail development on the site.

Supporting the application, councillor Michelle Swallow (Labour, Clayton and Fairweather Green) said there is a “a lot of positive feeling” towards the development.

Lodging a comment on the planning application, she said: “I feel that this development will add value to our local area in terms of the offer proposed i.e. coffee shop, retail and family pub restaurant and also in terms of local employment.

“While out in the area of Dene Crescent, we received no negative feedback about the proposed development and in fact the residents who did comment on it were keen to see it developed and used, instead of it being used as a dumping ground for litter, as is currently the case.”

A report to the Regulatory and Appeals Committee outlined other supporting comments, highlighting a wider choice of shops, the welcome addition of a pub/restaurant and that a proposal of this type was “long overdue” in the area.

However, objections include fears over traffic, parking problems, an increase in anti-social behaviour and noise problems.

Concerns have also been raised over a lack of information passed to residents in nearby streets.

One resident slammed the plans as “ridiculous” and said: “The traffic is extremely poor as it is. This will only cause further delays at the worst of times.”

Another said: “Hygiene is already an issue with missed bin collections and the addition of retail or food premises

are going to add to the unclean streets and add to the rat population of Bradford.”

It is recommended the application is approved, subject to conditions including a pelican crossing on Clayton Road and a loop detector on Hollingwood Lane, an extension of waiting restrictions across the front of the site on Clayton Road, parking provision for Clayton Road residents, a conversion of existing parking bays on Hollingwood Lane to residents’ permit parking and limited waiting, and yellow box markings at the new access on Clayton Road, as well as at the Hollingwood Lane and Scholemoor Lane junctions.
