THE Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Abid Hussain joined his Lord Mayoral colleagues from across the county yesterday for the annual Yorkshire Day civic celebration.

This year, the event was held in Sheffield, which saw a group of mayors and civic dignitaries from every corner of the county come together to parade around the city.

The parade snaked through Sheffield city centre, led by the City of Sheffield Pipe Band, before finishing at Sheffield Cathedral for a service to celebrate Yorkshire Day.

Elsewhere in the district, Ilkley Summer Festival got underway with a Yorkshire Day celebration in the town.

Ilkley’s town crier and the chairman of the parish council Brian Mann led the event, with music and entertainment provided by the Phoenix Jazz Band, who played as the procession marched around the town.

At East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley, an event was held exploring Lammas Day, a festival celebrating the wheat harvest which coincides with Yorkshire Day, created by local award-winning baker Mike Armstrong.
