KEIGHLEY district remains a place full of potential and talent despite the challenges it faces according to Bradford's Lord Mayor.

Councillor Abid Hussain, who is also a district councillor for Keighley Central Ward, was invited to address the latest full meeting of Keighley Town Council.

Speaking to its members last Thursday, (July 27) he said: "Keighley has been my home since I arrived here as a 12-year-old boy in 1971.

"Back then I never could have guessed I'd end up representing Keighley and representing the district.

"My wife and I have taken this area to our hearts so I'm determined to give something back and make Keighley a better place for our next generation.

"For myself this has been a place of opportunities, and while it's true that we have lots of challenges we also have a great business community and plenty of talent and energy.

"I'm keen to hear from town councillors about how we can work together."

Cllr Hussain also promoted the two charities he is supporting for his Lord Mayor's appeal.

He is backing Bingley-based charity the Down Syndrome Training and Support Service, and the Wishing Well Appeal, which gives out small grants to smaller charities and organisations around the district.
