THE anniversary of nuclear attacks which devastated a Japanese city during the Second World War will be marked in Bradford.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, will attend a Hiroshima Day commemoration event on Sunday, August 6, held from noon.

The ceremony will take place in Norfolk Gardens in Bradford city centre.

A peace memorial ceremony, to pray for the victims of the atomic bombs, the abolition of nuclear weapons and lasting world peace, is held each year in Hiroshima and mirrored in Bradford, along with other places around the world.

During the final stage of the Second World War, the United States dropped nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945 respectively.

Representatives from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament will also attend the ceremony being held in Bradford.
