Police hunting for a driver who fled the scene of a crash leaving a badly injured woman passenger trapped in the wreckage say they believe they know the identity of the man they are looking for.

He had been driving a blue Volkswagen Golf towards Bradford when the crash (pictured) occurred at the junction of Hunters Park Avenue and Bradford Road in Clayton at 9.45pm on Monday, July 17.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing and they were making "continuous" efforts to trace the driver so they can speak to him about the crash.

"The injured woman is continuing to recover in hospital and officers have spoken to her as part of this investigation," the spokesman added.

"We believe the blue Golf had travelled in convoy with a silver Volkswagen Golf from the Thornton area in the minutes before the collision."

Anyone who may have seen these cars together as they travelled to Clayton, or anyone who can assist the investigation further is asked to contact PC 2290 Conlon at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101, quoting log 1983 of 17 July.
