A SECOND splash of colour has been added to Manorlands' fundraising efforts.

A PaintRush, which proved a massive success on its debut last year, has been repeated.

And the event, on Sunday, was hailed as a huge success.

About 850 people took part and although the fundraising figure is to be finalised, it is hoped last year's total of £25,000 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice will be exceeded.

"It went really well," said Manorlands fundraiser, Andrew Wood.

"As well as the pre-event entries, nearly 100 people entered on the day, which was tremendous.

"There was a good atmosphere and everyone who took part had big smiles on their faces."

The extravaganza – organised by the hospice's Riddlesden and East Morton support group – saw participants pelted or sprayed with different shades of brightly-coloured paint powder as they ran or walked around a 5km course at Marley playing fields, in Keighley.

Main sponsors – McNally Electrical Yorkshire Ltd, JACS of Skipton and Holroyds Estate Agents – had paint stations.

And others supporting paint stations included Acorn Stairlifts, Blue Sky Event Solutions, Whitakers Animal Feeds and Colin Appleyard Ltd.

AB Jetting used high-pressure water hoses to spray the runners.

"I would like to say a big thank-you to all those who participated and the companies which sponsored the event or supported it in some way," said Mr Wood.

"And a huge thanks goes to the support group for organising it. A tremendous amount of hard work by volunteers goes into staging this kind of event, and without their dedication it just wouldn't happen."

Other attractions at the playing fields included music, food and a bar.

Manorlands supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the hospice and in the community, across an area covering Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale as well as parts of Bradford.

All services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £9,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.

Only a small part of the cost is covered by statutory funds.

Most of the funds have to be raised through voluntary donations.
