THE DAMNING Ofsted report on Nessfield Primary School in Keighley makes shocking reading.

Some of the findings are quite disturbing and understandably have caused considerable consternation among parents and the wider community.

A number of serious failings are identified and children at the school have been badly let down.

Questions must be asked about how on earth this state of affairs has been allowed to develop.

And it is imperative that lessons are learned.

A new leadership team is now in place and we are assured that issues raised in the report are being addressed "as a matter of urgency".

Bradford Council has to play a strong role in ensuring the school not only gets back on an even keel, but makes strides forward.

Schools nowadays do face unprecedented pressures, not least financially.

They are in an unenviable and increasingly-challenging position of having to balance the books while trying to maintain a strong and well-balanced education for their pupils.

However, whatever those pressures, there can simply be no excuse for some of the failures noted in this latest inspection report.

No one pretends the job is easy, but when our children's futures are at stake, failure can't be an option.
