AN animal charity will be visiting libraries across Bradford next week, teaching children how to take care of their pets.

The Dogs Trust is holding workshops at eight libraries as part of this years Summer Reading Challenge, which has the theme of Animal Agents.

The scheme encourages children to read over the summer holiday. Last year, over 4,200 children in Bradford took part in the challenge.

The workshops will cover getting to know about the Dogs Trust and how to care for your own dog.

In addition to arts and craft activities, education officer from the trust, Laura-Jane Muscroft will bring her dog along to meet the children.

Families are encouraged to bring in donations of dog food, blankets and other dog parapahalia. The event is most suitable for families with children up to 12-years-old.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby. Executive Member for Environment, Sport and Culture, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to keep children up to speed with everything they learned in school. The programme this year has an interesting theme that everyone will enjoy.”

The sessions take place in Clayton Library on Monday July 24 from 11am to noon, then at 2pm-3pm at Ilkley Library. On Wednesday July 26 there will be a session at Wyke Library at 11am to noon, then Keighley Library from 2pm to 3pm.

On Thursday July 27 they will take place at Eccleshill Library from 11am to noon then at Laisterdyke Library from 2pm to 3pm, and on Friday July 28 they will be held at Bingley Library from 11am to noon and Shipley Library from 2pm to 3pm.
