CASH was stolen when a security guard was threatened and robbed outside a bank in Bradford today.

The incident involving a G4S security van took place outside the Barclays bank in Carlisle Street, Manningham, at about 11.10am today.

The suspects, believed to be two assailants, grabbed a bag of cash from the G4S courier as he walked between the bank and the van, and made off towards Conduit Street.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "An amount of cash was taken but it is not clear how much, or if it was taken from the G4S van.

"There is no suggestion of any injuries, and an area search has been made.

"One of the suspects was possibly wearing a dark green hoody, and is of slim build and average height.

"Inquiries are continuing."

An onlooker, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he saw shattered glass on the ground, and crime scene investigation officers working at the scene.

He said: "I am shocked, similar things have happened in Manningham Lane and Lumb Lane recently.

"It seems to be a growing trend, until the recent incidents I'd never seen this kind of thing happen but now its happening a lot more.

"As a Manningham resident it's concerning these are happening so close to each other."

Gareth Skinner, G4S cash UK head of operational risk, said: "One of our cash crews was the victim of a brazen attack during a routine service on Carlisle Street in Bradford.

"Fortunately our colleague has not suffered any serious injuries.

"We are working closely with the police and I would urge anyone who may have been nearby and seen this attack to get in touch with the police or dial 101 so that those behind it can be brought to justice.”
